Introduction to Qinghai University
Qinghai University (青海大学, website), formerly known as Qinghai Institute of Technology, was founded in 1958. In November 1960, it merged with Qinghai University of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Qinghai Medical College, and Qinghai University of Finance and Economics to form Qinghai University. The “Cultural Revolution” was initially cancelled. Qinghai College of Industry and Agriculture was restored in 1971, with two colleges of engineering and agriculture. Qinghai University was restored in 1988. In October 1997, Qinghai Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College was merged into Qinghai University. In January 2001, the Qinghai Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Qinghai Academy of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, and Qinghai Vocational College of Finance and Economics were incorporated into Qinghai University. In 2004, Qinghai Medical College was incorporated to form a new Qinghai University.
Qinghai University has developed into a teaching and research university focusing on the four majors of engineering, agriculture, medicine, and management, and coordinated development of other disciplines. Since 2001, Tsinghua University and other 4 well-known universities have supported Qinghai University in counterparts. In 2004, it became a “provincial-ministerial” university jointly constructed by the Qinghai Provincial People’s Government and the Ministry of Education. In 2008, it became a national “211 Project” key university. In 2012, he was selected as one of the 14 universities in the Midwest to enhance the comprehensive strength of universities in the country. In 2016, he became the first batch of 100 national innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration schools. In 2017, he was selected as a national “world-class discipline” construction university. Qinghai University covers an area of more than 3,000 acres, and recruits students from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions around the world and the country. There are more than 27,000 students, including 145 doctoral students, 1898 graduate students and 21,000 undergraduates. The school has 4,615 faculty members, including 2565 medical and nursing professionals, 1467 full-time teachers, more than 420 full-time teachers with doctoral degrees, and 87% of them have master’s degrees or higher.

Qinghai University has 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 7 academicians. 4 professors specially invited by the Yangtze River Scholars Award Program of the Ministry of Education, 1 expert in the National Thousand Talents Program for Foreign Experts, and 2 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, were selected into the National “Ten Thousand Talents Program” and National “Billion Talents” 20 national-level talents including the Project, “New Century Excellent Talents Support Program” and 34 “Special Allowance Experts of the State Council”, won the National Innovation Pioneer Award, Hong Kong Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Innovation Award, Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation Young Teacher Award , 19 awards from the Chinese Overseas Chinese (Innovative Talents) Contribution Award, the Third World Academy of Sciences ’World’s Only Basic Medicine Award, more than 30 national and provincial teaching teachers, outstanding teachers, and educators, outstanding provincial experts, and outstanding professional and technical personnel More than 60 people were selected into the “High-end Innovative Talents Thousand Talents Plan” talent project of Qinghai Province with 146 people and 11 team projects. Qinghai University has formed distinct disciplinary advantages and school running characteristics in areas such as Sanjiangyuan Ecological Protection, Plateau Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Plateau Medicine, Tibetan Medicine, Salt Lake Chemical Industry, New Energy and New Materials, and cultivated a large number of application-oriented talents for the economic construction of Qinghai. With the strong support of universities such as Tsinghua University, Northwest A & F University, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), and East China University of Science and Technology, Qinghai University has made considerable progress and development in disciplines, teachers, talent training, and scientific research. It has signed exchanges and cooperation memoranda with universities in more than 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, and has carried out practical cooperation.
