Introduction to Hebei Normal University
Hebei Normal University (河北师范大学, website) is a provincial key university jointly established by the Hebei Provincial People’s Government and the Ministry of Education. Hebei Province is a “double first-class” one-level university. The school originated from Suntianfu School in Beijing in 1902 and Beiyang Women’s Normal School in Tianjin in 1906. It has a history of 117 years of development and a glorious tradition of running a school. In June 1996, the former Hebei Normal University and Hebei Normal University merged with the Hebei Education Institute founded in 1952 and the Hebei Vocational and Technical Teachers College established in 1984 to form a new Hebei Normal University. Among the alumni are the older generation of revolutionaries Deng Yingchao, Liu Qingyang, Guo Longzhen, Yang Xiufeng, Kang Shien, Rong Gaotang, etc., academic celebrities Liang Shuming, Zhang Shenfu, Tang Yongtong, etc., academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Yan Luguang, Hao Berlin, Li Shushen, He Hong, and others. Hebei Normal University moved to the new campus in 2011 to run the school. The new campus covers an area of 1829 acres, with a collection of 3.03 million books and 67 Chinese and foreign language databases. The school currently has 2,606 faculty members, including 1617 full-time teachers. Among the in-service faculty members, there are 431 full-time vocational staff, 915 deputy vocational staff, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 215 outstanding experts of various types above the provincial level, 124 doctoral supervisors, and 768 master supervisors. There are 23,692 undergraduates, 4,638 graduate students, and 8,418 adult education students.
Hebei Normal University currently has 23 professional colleges and 1 independent college (Huihua College). There are 11 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 1 authorized degree of doctoral degree; 29 first-level disciplines authorized by master’s degree, 14 authorized master’s degree, and 95 undergraduate majors. The disciplines cover ten disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. There are 1 national key disciplines, 9 post-doctoral research stations, 7 “double first-class” construction disciplines in Hebei Province, 1 national key discipline cultivation project of provincial universities, 4 strong characteristic disciplines of provincial universities, and 14 provincial key disciplines. There are 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and 8 provincial key laboratories. Chemistry, botany and zoology have entered the top 1% of the ESI world rankings. Hebei Normal University has undertaken a number of national “973” and “863” plans, international cooperation projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, major bidding projects of the National Social Science Fund, major projects of Marxist theoretical research and construction projects, Research projects with major influences, such as the main projects of the Qing Dynasty compilation project. Academician Sun Daye’s research team won the second prize of National Natural Science, filling the gap in Hebei Province; PhD thesis under the guidance of Professor Jiang Chunlan has entered the ranks of “100 National Excellent Bosses”. The research results of humanities and social sciences were awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Scientific Research of the Ministry of Education, the National Dictionary Award, and the Lu Xun Literature Award. He has published many high-level academic papers in leading academic journals at home and abroad, such as Science, Nature, and Chinese social sciences.
Hebei Normal University has established three collaborative innovation centers in Hebei Province: “Cell Signaling and Environmental Adaptation”, “Digital Education” and “Yanzhao Academic Research Center”; “Great Wall Cultural Security Research Center” has been selected as the first batch of new think tanks in Hebei Province; Hebei Mathematics Research Center, Mobile Internet of Things Research Institute, Nihewan Archaeological Research Institute, Fuxue Research Center, County Historical and Cultural Research Center, Public Policy Evaluation Center, AR Key Laboratory, Yan Liang Xuezhi Center, Chinese Traditional Culture Heritage and Innovation platforms such as development research centers and ecological environment research centers have significantly enhanced their ability to serve economic construction and social development.
Hebei Normal University has extensive international cooperation and exchanges. It has established formal cooperative relationships with 87 universities and educational institutions in 23 countries, and has conducted exchanges with more than 200 foreign universities in the areas of cooperative school running, teacher exchange, student exchange, online courses, scientific research cooperation, and international intellectual introduction. The level of internationalization has gradually increased. The school is a recipient of “Chinese Government Scholarship” and “Confucius Institute Scholarship” for foreign students. Each year, there are more than 600 international students with long-term and short-term self-financed languages and academic degrees from Russia, the United States, Italy, Korea, Indonesia, Pakistan and other countries. 3 Confucius Institutes, 1 Confucius Classroom, 1 Portuguese-Chinese Bilingual High School, 1 Overseas College, and 2 Overseas Preparatory Colleges have been established in cooperation with Chinese teacher volunteers in more than 20 countries and actively participate in the international promotion of Chinese . The Peruvian Research Center, the Indonesian Research Center, and the Sino-Russian Far East Research Center were established to focus on building a regional research platform.
