Introduction to Shanghai Weiyu High School
Shanghai Weiyu High School (上海位育中学, website) is a modern boarding high school in Shanghai. The school has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents for the country, including 7 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering, and 26 presidents of famous universities.
The school was founded in 1943 by the famous educator Mr. Li Chucai. At the beginning of 1998, the senior high school was decoupled, and Weiyu Middle School moved south to the Huajing area, becoming one of Shanghai’s modern boarding senior middle schools. The school became one of the first experimental demonstration high schools in Shanghai in February 2005.
The International Department of Shanghai Weiyu High School is located on the campus. In May 2011, the school was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to implement the IB Diploma Programme. The school became the first public city key middle school in Shanghai to recruit Chinese students to study IBDP courses. The International Department of Weiyu Middle School has also become a comprehensive international education department that provides IBDP, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan joint entrance exams, foreign students’ academic courses and Chinese cultural training courses at the same time, which is second to none in the country.
