Introduction to Yali High School

Changsha Yali High School (雅礼中学, website) is one of the first eight key middle schools listed in Hunan Province, a national civilized unit, and a national modern educational technology experimental school. It is also a model ordinary high school in Hunan Province.

The school was founded in 1906. As of September 2014, it covers an area of 63,000 square meters, with more than 60 teaching classes and 3,320 students. The school and three other high schools are with the highest reputation in Changsha (Changsha No. 1 High School, Changjun School and High School Affiliated to Hunan Normal University). They are collectively known as the “Four Famous Schools in Changsha”.

Students at Yali have many after-school activities to participate. They are Chinese Week (including calligraphy contest, classical poetry contest, Chinese learning lectures, etc.), English culture festival (including English karaoke contest, oral English contest, English academic debate, etc.), School basketball games, sport club festivals, etc.

As of 2010, there are 26 student clubs in at Yali High School. Yan Hao, former president of the Drama Club, was nominated as a global scholar by the Young Leaders Association of America. From 2005 to 2007, Yali was the only invited school in Hunan Province to participate in the “National Model United Nations Conference for High School Students” for three consecutive years.
