Shanghai Foreign Language School (上海外国语学校, website) is one of the first foreign language schools approved by the State Council in 1963. The school is directly under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is currently the chairman and director of the National Foreign Language School, and the national Chinese language practice base for international promotion. It is a school with distinctive foreign language education characteristics.

Shanghai Foreign Language School is a complete middle school with a consistent seven-year school system. The school features multilingual courses, offering foreign language courses in English, German, French, Japanese, Russian, and Western languages, and implements small-class teaching. The school started bilingual classes from the middle preparatory grade, that is, students majored in a small language and English.
