“I have been to Jiangsu when I was 18 years old and stayed there for a month. That experience was very unforgettable for me. Because I went to university in London and worked in a bank for four years after graduation. At that time, I had a very strong desire to learn Chinese. In fact, I also compared many cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Taipei. After considering the cost of living, housing cost, and the entire life and culture, I finally chose Jinan. I think Jinan’s Chinese accent is relatively northerly, closer to Beijing, and I am still very interested in Jinan’s culture. What Jinan gives me the most is that the people here are very friendly, and the outside population is particularly tolerant. The city is very friendly. Declan comes from a small city in northern England and was hired as a foreign teacher at a school in Jinan two months ago. Because he majored in sports science, the first thing he did after coming to Jinan was to find a venue for training.
“In my mind, China is a superpower with a long history and a prosperous culture. I think it is necessary for me to come to China and learn Chinese. In my original school, there was a large Chinese community, where many Chinese invested in business, including the hot pot restaurant I often went to. The dishes on the menu were all Chinese food. I found it very interesting.”
Declan said that the two months he came to Jinan has upended his life in the UK for more than 20 years. He said that the teachers in Jinan are very enthusiastic, very friendly and very hospitable. Compared to London, England, everyone is busy, no one pays much attention to how you are. In China, he deeply felt the enthusiasm and friendliness of the Chinese people. In just two months in Jinan, he made more friends than he did in four years of university.
After Declan came to Jinan, it was inevitable to go shopping and eat in restaurants in his daily life. During this period, he was stunned by the convenient payment in various cities in China. With the help of friends around him, he learned to use WeChat, Alipay and other payment methods. What makes him most happy is that he also learned to order meals through a takeaway platform. Whether it’s Chinese, Indian, Thai, Korean or Japanese, you can “sit and enjoy the fruits” with your fingers. It’s really amazing.
After coming to Jinan, Declan also changed his mobile phone and had the first Chinese bank card in his life. And in the process of handling the bank card, the bank also has full English service. The enthusiasm of the staff made this guy from the UK a little flattered.
