Lanzhou Expats – Living in Lanzhou

Daniel, Canada

He is from Canada, has lived in more than a dozen countries, and recently stayed in Lanzhou.

“Gansu’s heavy history and culture give me a sense of home.” Daniel Boone, 27, came to Peking University to study archeology in 2006. He has graduated for 5 years and is currently working as a tour guide in Lanzhou with an international tourism company. He said: “Canada is vast and sparsely populated. My family lives in a small town below Edmonton. The town is as small as a road, two bars and a supermarket. It is not as crowded as a Chinese village. Canada is already very lively. “Daniel is a person who can’t stay idle. When he was studying in China, he often organized his classmates to travel together. After four years, he almost traveled all over China.

“In Gansu, my favorite city is Dunhuang.” Although Daniel was not born in China, he explores this magical country every day: “I like history very much, but the history of Canada is almost over when it comes to my grandfather’s grandfather. The history of Gansu spans more than 8,000 years, and it is also an important birthplace of the Chinese nation and Chinese civilization. There are so many wonderful stories. Walking here, underfoot is the inheritance of thousands of years. This feeling is so wonderful!”

Daniel’s daily job is to receive tourist groups from the United States and Canada in Lanzhou and arrange food, accommodation and transportation for them to travel to Gansu. “There are more and more foreigners traveling to Gansu. The most attractive tourist elements are natural and cultural tourist attractions, such as the Maijishan Grottoes in Tianshui, the Danxia landform in Zhangye, the towers in Jiayuguan, etc. In addition, Gansu The red wines are also very popular. Tourists often buy them as souvenirs.” Daniel said.

The Christmas holiday is here, and Daniel will welcome a large number of foreign visitors to Lanzhou. After working for a few years, because of his extensive knowledge and good service, tourists like him very much. Before coming to China, they will name Daniel as a tour guide. Daniel told reporters that when the tour guide is often too busy to even have time to eat and sleep irregularly, but every time he sees a tourist smiling after listening to his explanation: “I feel very happy.”
