Harbin Expats – Living in Harbin

Bryan, USA

Bryan, 22, is from New York, USA and has lived in Harbin for a year. After graduating from university a year ago, he wanted to look abroad and experience a different life atmosphere, so he came to China.

Speaking of the reasons for choosing Harbin, China as his destination, Bryan told reporters that what he had heard about when he was in school in the United States was a big country with a long history and a mystery. He has always longed for this country. Before coming to China, he also heard friends introduce some of China’s international metropolises, but he wanted to go to a city different from New York, and finally he chose Harbin, China.

Harbin is a very special city. Bryan said that when he first arrived in Harbin, he felt that although it is not as prosperous as Beijing and Shanghai and full of international style, Harbin has its own unique charm and culture. Bryan said that he likes the architecture of Harbin very much. These European-style buildings make people feel like they are in an architectural museum. The stone roads, pedestrian streets, ancient Confucian Temples, and those European-style buildings that he didn’t call his name. He felt that Harbin’s buildings were like solid notes, with the romance of the European Middle Ages and the elegance of ancient China. There is also modern unrestrainedness, which makes him feel the perfect blend of Chinese and Western cultures in this city.

“Harbin is really cold! New York is not as cold here, and you usually don’t see such heavy snow. Although I don’t particularly like snow, Harbin after the snow is really beautiful.” Brian said.

Bryan loves Chinese food, especially pot-packed meat. Because he doesn’t know how to cook it, he will order this dish every time he goes out to relieve his greed. There is also Harbin sausage, and Bryan also gave a thumbs up and said that Harbin sausage is great. He told reporters that he would eat red sausage for breakfast almost every day, and he thought it was the best thing in Harbin.

Bryan currently teaches in a children’s English school, and he likes this job very much. Colleagues like Brian very much because he is not only handsome, but also friendly and humorous. Chinese colleagues call him “Xiaobu” affectionately. Being able to study and play with the children makes Brian feel very fulfilled. He said that his students are all “buddies” with him, and he loves every child.
