Introduction to Xiamen Yingcai School

Xiamen Yingcai School (厦门英才学校, website) was founded in 1995 as a private not-for-profit co-educational boarding school accredited by the Ministry of Education in China. Over 600 faculty and staff assist the approximately 3,600 Pre-Kindergarten, Primary, Junior Middle School, and Senior Middle School students who study and board at XYS. Chinese national students make up 99% of the student body; the remainder are from Vietnam and Japan. Three-fifths of the students are from Fujian Province, while one- fifth are from other provinces in China, and another one-fifth of the students’ parents live and work in nearby countries. The majority of parents own manufacturing or other companies, or work in management or professional fields. The campus is located in a suburb approximately 15 miles from the center of Xiamen, a second-tier city of approximately 3.9 million people located in southeastern China.

Also known as High School, XYS’ Senior Middle School serves students in Grades 10 through 12 and has three divisions: Art Curriculum, Chinese Curriculum, and International Curriculum. The art track students focus primarily on the visual arts. Students who study Chinese Curriculum will take the Gao Kao exam and matriculate into universities in China. XYS students achieved the highest science Gao Kao scores in Fujian Province in 2004 and 2015. Lastly, the goal of students in the International Center is to continue their post-secondary education overseas. Students in each program take the Hui Kao proficiency exams in Grades 10 and 11 in order to receive a High School Diploma.
