Introduction to Nanjing Foreign Language School
Nanjing Foreign Language School (NFLS, 南京外国语学校, website) is one of the first 7 foreign language schools in the country founded in 1963. In the course of running the school for more than half a century, NFLS insisted on fully implementing the party’s educational policy, strictly following the educational laws, striving to grasp the pulse of the times, and deeply integrating its own development into the progress of society.
The school has made a non-negligible contribution to the diplomatic cause of New China; took the lead in advancing international schooling and firmly seized the opportunity of reform and opening up; took the lead in exploring diversified training models and pathways for further education and talents, striving to meet the individualized growth of students Demands and diversified talent demands of society.
For more than 50 years, the people of Nanwai have kept their original aspirations and kept pace with the times. A series of key measures in different periods have allowed Nanwai to grow together with the motherland and the times. Nanwai is a school directly under the Nanjing Education Bureau and one of the 16 foreign language middle schools in the country that have the qualifications to recommend students for admission.
The school has two campuses, Beijing East Road and Daxinggong, covering an area of 46122 m2, with a building area of 52005 m2, with a beautiful campus environment and first-class educational facilities. Construction of the Southern New Town Campus covering an area of 140 acres has begun and is scheduled to be put into use in 2022. There are 324 faculty members in the school, including 311 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 155 have a graduate degree or above, 19 are special-level teachers, 19 are senior teachers, 39 are city leaders, and 64 are city outstanding young teachers.
The school now offers four languages: English, German, French, and Japanese. There are 24 classes in regular high schools, 24 classes in high school international courses (IB, A-level, BCA), and 36 classes in junior high schools, with a total of 3898 students.
NFLS always adheres to the student-oriented principle, encourages all-round development and free growth of students, and promotes the development of students’ personality and harmony in body and mind. The distinctive talent training model allows NFLS students to have lofty aspirations, comprehensive quality, excellent arts and sciences, and foreign language expertise.
For more than 50 years, the school has trained more than 10,000 outstanding graduates, including a large number of senior foreign language diplomatic talents rooted in the country’s diplomatic front, represented by more than 20 ambassadors and two spokespersons of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They are active in the United Nations, Global governance talents in international organizations such as the World Trade Organization strive for leading talents in the fields of natural sciences, social sciences, linguistics, literature, and art.
Nanjing Foreign Language School also has a large number of outstanding alumni who are all over the world, serve all walks of life, have ideals and are willing to contribute. In recent years, our school’s admissions, college entrance examinations, and overseas studies have continued to maintain the leading position in China. The diversified overpasses have allowed Nanwai students to develop diversifiedly. The personalized curriculum system allows NFLS students to flourish. Every year, a large number of students stand out in various competitions at home and abroad. In the International Olympic Subject Competition, our school students have won 9 gold medals.
In 2002, the school successively opened the China-Canada International High School Curriculum Experimental Class (BCA), Cambridge International High School Curriculum Experimental Class (A-Level), and IB International Baccalaureate Experimental Class. Our school has established friendly school relations with more than 50 middle schools in more than 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
In 2019, the school was successfully selected as one of the first high-quality demonstration high school construction projects in Jiangsu Province. NFLS will always adhere to rooting in China, integrating China and foreign countries, and actively exploring the road to high-quality high school construction.
