Introduction to Guangdong Experimental High School
Guangdong Experimental High School (GEHS, Chinese: 广东实验中学), is a provincial key high school directly under the leadership of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and the first batch of national model high schools in Guangdong Province.
The predecessor of Guangdong Experimental High School began in 1872 with the “Preliminary English Language Course for American Students” established by the Qing government. The school has trained thousands of outstanding students including academicians Deng Ximing, Huang Yaoxiang, Fan Haifu, Cai Ruixian, Jiang Boju, Cen Kefa, Zhong Nanshan and other academicians. At present, the junior high school campus is located in Zhongshan Fourth Road, Guangzhou, the high school campus is located in Longxi Avenue, Liwan District, Guangzhou City, Tianhe Branch is located in Tianyuan Road, Tianhe District, Guangzhou City, Shunde Branch is located in Huangpu, Ronggui, Shunde District, Foshan City, and Nanhai Branch is located in Foshan City. Nanhai Lishui Xinxin Avenue, Zhongxin Shanyu Lake, Zhuhai Jinwan School is located in Jinwan District, Zhuhai City, Liwan Campus is located in the Guanggang Lot in Liwan District, Baiyun Province is located in Xiahua 1st Road, Baiyun District, Guangzhou, and Provincial Shiyuexiu School is located in Guangzhou Yuexiu District (formed by the merger of the former Yuexiu District Foreign Language School and No. 21 Middle School).
1. Technology education. Since 2007, our school has participated in the National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition and won a total of 13 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals. It is one of the most awarded schools in the country and the first batch of schools to win the title of “Top Ten National Science and Technology Education Innovation Schools”. Participated in the 64th, 65th and 66th Nuremberg International Invention Exhibitions, and won a total of 5 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze, which is the school with the best performance of the Chinese delegation. In recent years, our school has won 3 gold medals, 14 silver medals, 4 bronze medals and multiple individual awards in astronomy education, and won more than 40 national first prizes; in the field of environmental education, it has won 26 international awards. 2. Physical education. Guangdong Experimental High School actively develops “Sunshine Sports” and is one of the middle schools that have won the most sports world championships in the country. At present, our school has nine high-level sports teams including badminton team, radio direction finding team, table tennis team, swimming team, tennis team, aerobics team, basketball team, track and field team, and martial arts team. Our school’s badminton team has made outstanding achievements in the Guangdong, National and World Middle School Badminton Championships. It has represented China three times in the World Middle School Badminton Championships and won 10 of the 12 gold medals. Our school’s radio direction finding team has won the number of championships and medals in national championships for six consecutive years. It has trained 14 national athletes. It has won 20 gold, 15 silver and 10 bronze in the Asia-Pacific Championships, 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in the Eurasian Championships. Fifth and sixth place, 111 national champions, 126 second runners, nearly 400 national first prizes and many other good results. It is the best middle school direction finding team in Asia; it has become the “Chinese radio direction finding country.” “Youth Team”, “National Excellent Unit of Radio Direction Finding”, “National Excellent Radio Direction Finding Team”. Our school table tennis team participated in the 2014 National Middle School Table Tennis Championships and won the high school men’s doubles championship and the second place in the total score. Our tennis team participated in the 2015 China Middle School Tennis Championships and won 1 team championship, 2 team runner-ups, 2 doubles champions, 2 singles champions, and 1 doubles runner-up. Our school was selected as the National Badminton Traditional Project School and National Science and Technology Sports Traditional School (the first batch), as well as the Guangdong Provincial Traditional School of three projects of badminton, swimming and track and field.
3. Art education. Our school’s choir was established in 1952 and participated in the first, third, fifth, seventh, and eighth world choral festivals, all of which won multiple gold awards and ranked third in the overall ranking of the world choral festival; The third and fourth national primary and secondary school art exhibitions all won first prizes; participated in the Guangzhou Primary and Secondary School Choir Festival and created a remarkable record of “12 consecutive championships”. For example, in 2014, our school’s choir participated in the 8th World Chorus Festival and stood out among the 460 participating teams, winning 1 gold medal champion and 3 gold medals.
