Introduction to Anhui International Studies University

Anhui International Studies University (安徽外国语学院, website) is a provincial non-governmental private full-time undergraduate college and the only undergraduate foreign language college in the central region. The school was established in 2002 and was formerly known as Anhui Vocational College of Foreign Languages. In April 2011, it was upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The school is located in the Zipeng Mountain Scenic Area of the National Forest Park in Hefei. The campus blends the natural atmosphere of the mountains and the water with the European-style architectural style, highlighting the unity of the environment and humanities, and is a modern garden-style school.

Anhui International Studies University consists of the Western Language Institute, the Oriental Language Institute, the International Business School, the International Tourism College, the International Economics College, the School of Arts and Media, the Marxism College, the Department of Public Foreign Languages, the Department of Public Basic Courses, and Information Technology Teaching and Research 10 colleges (departments). There are 33 undergraduate majors covering 4 disciplines of literature, economics, management, and arts, of which there are 11 majors in foreign language and literature, involving 9 foreign languages. It is the university with the most foreign languages in Anhui Province.

Anhui International Studies University currently has 65 experimental (practice) rooms, 2 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2268 teaching computers, 100 students equipped with 18.8 teaching computers, and 18660 multimedia classroom and voice laboratory seats. Hundreds of students have 155 multimedia classroom and voice lab seats. The school’s financial experiment center, comprehensive economic management laboratory, simultaneous interpretation laboratory, art design laboratory, and speaking test laboratory center have reached the advanced level in the province. The laboratory and its facilities can basically meet the needs of undergraduate experimental teaching. The school attaches importance to the sharing of experimental teaching resources, actively promotes the opening of laboratories, improves the utilization of instruments and equipment, and effectively uses the training venues on campus.

Anhui International Studies University currently has 663 full-time teachers, including 243 senior titles, accounting for 36.7% of the total number of full-time teachers, 23 foreign teachers at school, and a total of 11,2016 students. Since its establishment, the school has delivered more than 30,000 graduates to the front lines of production, management and service. The school actively promotes cooperation between universities, inter-schools, schools, enterprises, and schools. Currently, it has 15 production-learning-research cooperation education bases, 96 off-campus internship bases, 121 relatively stable employment units, and central financial support. There are 1 “Modern Logistics Management Training Base”, 2 “Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers”, 1 “Provincial University Student Entrepreneurship Incubation Base”, and 1 “Municipal University Student Entrepreneurship Incubation Base”. A total of 49 projects have been settled in the university’s undergraduate entrepreneurship incubation base. In November 2016, it won the “National Private University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Culture Construction Award”.

Anhui International Studies University actively provides foreign language translation and volunteer services for foreign affairs events and international conferences organized by local governments or enterprises. Pay attention to cultural heritage and innovation, combine education and service, and actively integrate local culture, especially red culture, into campus cultural activities. The school actively uses related resources, sets up corresponding research teams, conducts research on characteristic culture, focuses on organic integration of traditional culture with local culture and red culture, and combines education with local cultural heritage and innovation.

The university has cooperated with universities in Japan, South Korea, Australia, the United States, Spain, Thailand, Malta, and Russia. The school has established a study abroad service center to provide students with study abroad consulting and related services, and actively encourage students to “go abroad” and broaden their international perspective.
