Gansu Normal University for Nationalities (甘肃民族师范学院, website) is located in the cooperative city of the capital of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture at the junction of Gansu, Qinghai and Sichuan.

The school’s predecessor was the Cooperative Ethnic Teachers College, which was founded in October 1984. On May 16, 1986, Comrade Hu Yaobang, then General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, wrote the name of the school during an inspection in Gannan. In March 2009, the school was upgraded to Gansu Teachers College for Nationalities, which is the only province-based ethnic normal university in Gansu Province.
