Introduction to Chongqing Three Gorges University
Chongqing Three Gorges University (重庆三峡学院, website) was founded in 1956 and is located in Wanzhou District, Chongqing. In 1994, it was upgraded to a undergraduate institution. In 2013, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a master’s degree granting unit. In 2021, it was approved by the Chongqing Academic Degrees Committee as a doctoral degree granting unit for construction as a university. The school is a full-time ordinary higher education institution organized by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and supervised by the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission.
In the long-term process of education, the school has accumulated a school motto spirit centered on “virtue, erudition, self-improvement, and innovation”; The school actively grasps and adapts to the development and changes of education in the new era, accelerates the transformation and development, and becomes the first undergraduate university in Chongqing to advocate the concept of “green education” and promote the integration of green education industry and education. The school is currently a national pilot unit for the construction of smart campuses, a member of the China US Applied Technology Education “Double Hundred Plan”, a demonstration unit for educational informatization in Chongqing, a demonstration school for the construction of green schools in Chongqing, and an experimental school for the reform and development of aesthetic education in universities in Chongqing.
The school covers an area of nearly 3000 acres, with a building area of approximately 710000 square meters. The total value of teaching and research equipment is over 300 million yuan, and the library has a collection of nearly 2 million paper books and over 1.89 million electronic books.
The school has a complete range of disciplines and distinctive features. It has now formed a disciplinary and professional system with engineering, literature, and management as the main disciplines, and coordinated development of disciplines such as science, agriculture, economics, education, law, and art. The school mainly focuses on undergraduate education, and coordinates the development of graduate education and adult education. There are currently 5 primary discipline master’s degree authorization points, 8 professional degree master’s degree authorization points, 7 municipal key disciplines during the 14th Five Year Plan period, and 3 municipal “Artificial Intelligence+” discipline clusters; There are 61 undergraduate majors, and 27 majors have been approved as national and provincial level characteristic majors (groups) and first-class majors. In the past five years, we have won 16 provincial and ministerial level and above excellent teaching achievement awards, including 2 national level teaching achievement second prizes.
The school has 18 secondary colleges and more than 20000 full-time students, including more than 2000 master’s students. In the past five years, students have won more than 1750 provincial and ministerial level and above awards in China’s “Internet plus” Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, “Challenge Cup” Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, “Creating Youth” Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Plan Spirit, National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition, National Undergraduate Mathematical Modeling Competition and other events, including one gold award in the 8th China International “Internet plus” Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, two silver awards in the 2023 China International Undergraduate Innovation Competition, one special award and three first prizes in the China TRIZ Cup Undergraduate Innovation Method Competition, and one first prize in the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition; Won 12 consecutive championships in the Chinese College Student Computer Game Competition and 14 consecutive championships in the Chongqing College Student Martial Arts Competition.
The school currently has over 1100 full-time teachers, including over 450 in senior professional and technical positions and over 240 with doctoral degrees. We have established a national expert service base, a Chongqing academician workstation, and a postdoctoral research workstation. There are currently three national “Thousand Talents Program” and “Changjiang Scholars” lecture professors, as well as experts who enjoy special government allowances from the State Council; Two recipients of the National May Day Labor Medal and the May Day Women’s Model; 29 outstanding teachers, backbone teachers, and recipients of the May Day Labor Medal in Chongqing, 16 scholars from Ba Yu, and 54 outstanding talents, Ba Yu scholars, academic and technical leaders and reserve candidates in Chongqing, as well as outstanding young and middle-aged experts.
The school closely focuses on the needs of national and local economic and social development, strengthens scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation. In the past 5 years, we have received 29 provincial-level (ministerial) and above scientific research achievements awards, including 1 award for the 15th “Five One Project” of the Central Propaganda Department, 3 first prizes for provincial-level scientific research achievements, and 1 gold award for the 48th Geneva International Invention Award. There are currently 28 research platforms, including provincial and ministerial level key laboratories, national industry testing bases, and provincial and ministerial level engineering technology centers; Hosted over 670 national and provincial-level scientific research projects, and undertaken over 710 horizontal research projects commissioned by government departments and enterprises and institutions; Six provincial and ministerial level innovation teams (innovation research groups) have been approved; Obtained over 900 national authorized patents, including over 200 invention patents; Published over 120 academic works.
The school actively carries out the work of opening up education to the outside world, and has established cooperative relationships with multiple foreign universities such as the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as multiple foreign companies and research institutions such as BSK and Indonesia International Daily. It has also established cooperative relationships with multiple domestic universities such as Southeast University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Shandong University, as well as local governments and enterprises.
