Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs (山东外事职业大学, website) is a full-time undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 1999. In July 2004, with the approval of the Shandong Provincial People’s Government, the Ministry of Education filed a record and was rebuilt into the Shandong Vocational College of Foreign Affairs Translation, becoming a full-time general vocational college. In December 2018, it was upgraded to an undergraduate institution with the approval of the Ministry of Education. May 2019 changed its name to Shandong Vocational College of Foreign Affairs. Former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress and former Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing is our honorary president.
Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs has two campuses in Weihai and Jinan, covering an area of more than 1,600 acres and a building area of more than 350,000 square meters. There are 12 teaching units including Foreign Languages College, School of Management, International Business School, School of Engineering, School of Information and Control Engineering, School of Art, School of Nursing, College of Comprehensive Education, School of Continuing Education, School of International Communication, School of STEM Education, and Basic Department. There are 56 undergraduate and specialty courses with more than 15,000 students. Formed a professional construction pattern of coordinated development of literature, economics, management, engineering, law, education, and art.
Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs focuses on strengthening the construction of basic conditions for teaching. There are 4 experimental training centers (Applied Foreign Language Training Center, International Business Experimental Training Center, Tourism Management Training Center, and Computer Experimental Teaching Center). Among them, the Applied Foreign Language Training Center is the Weihai Municipal Demonstration Training Center. The E-commerce and Technology R & D Center is a provincial engineering technology center. 91 on-campus experimental training rooms, 97 off-campus internship training bases, 140 multimedia, E-based interactive classrooms. Simultaneous interpretation experimental teaching center can perform simultaneous interpretation in 7 languages at the same time, reaching the domestic leading level. The translation training room is equipped with an international advanced translation service software system and supports two-way mutual translation of 64 languages, which provides good conditions for practical teaching.
The university library has a building area of 27,800 square meters, with 1.3058 million paper books and 7.5TB of electronic books. The reading space has reached 6,100 square meters. It has a perfect automated management system for books and materials, and has abundant online resources. Sports facilities such as sports venues are complete. Living facilities such as student restaurants, student apartments and international student apartments have reached a high level.
Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs has vigorously strengthened the construction of the teaching staff and continuously optimized the structure of the teaching staff. There are more than 1,000 faculty members, including more than 860 full-time teachers, more than 240 full-time teachers including professors, associate professors and other senior titles, more than 400 teachers with dual teacher qualifications, and nearly 400 teachers with doctoral and master degrees. There are five provincial-level excellent teaching teams, including four experts who enjoy special allowances from the State Council, three members of the Ministry of Education’s Professional Education Instruction Committee, eleven national and provincial outstanding teachers, and a group of relatively stable foreign teachers.
The University insists on teaching as the center, adheres to the top-quality project of teaching quality, and actively constructs a system for the diagnosis and improvement of teaching quality, a practical teaching system for the training of skilled personnel, and a construction system for teaching quality engineering. There are 12 provincial-level specialties and brand majors (groups), 12 provincial-level quality courses and excellent resource-sharing courses, completed 10 provincial and ministerial education reform projects, and won 4 provincial-level or higher teaching achievement awards. In the 2015 evaluation of talent training in higher vocational colleges in Shandong Province, the seven first-level indicators were all excellent and passed with excellent results.
Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs attaches great importance to scientific research, always adheres to “scientific research leads teaching and supports teaching”, and actively builds various academic platforms. The Sunzi Academy of Military Technology of the Pre-Qin Historical Society of China, the Shandong Higher Education Research Institute, and the Higher Education Development Research Center of the Shandong Higher Education Management Scientific Research Society have successively settled in our school. The school also has academic institutions such as the Foreign Language Translation and Research Center, the Shandong Province Electronic Commerce and Technology R & D Center, the Northeast Asia Research Institute, and the National Studies Research Institute.
Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs has approved 2 national research projects, 25 provincial and ministerial research projects, and 67 city-level research projects. Teachers of our university have published 1105 academic papers, published 63 academic monographs, obtained 33 utility model patents, and 53 municipal, department-level and above outstanding scientific research achievement awards. With the continuous increase of our university’s investment in scientific research and the continuous innovation of scientific research concepts, the teachers’ scientific research consciousness has been continuously enhanced, the scientific research atmosphere has become increasingly strong, and the scientific and technological achievements have become increasingly prominent.
The university has established a foreign language training center and Yilin Translation Company to provide multilingual and multilevel foreign language training and translation work for the society. In recent years, the breadth and depth of school-enterprise cooperation have been continuously expanded, and more than 200 companies have signed cooperation agreements with schools. Jingdong Group, Suning Yunshang Group, China Ping An and other well-known companies have built on-campus training centers in the school. Among them, the Jingdong Campus Training Center was awarded the honorary title of “National Vocational School E-Commerce Internet + Double Innovation Training Base” by the Vocational Education Equipment Professional Committee of the Chinese Vocational and Technical Education Association for its outstanding e-commerce BPO business. The school was also established by the Jingdong Group For “Jingdong strategic partners.” As an outsourcing training institution in Shandong Province and a member unit of colleges and universities in China’s service outsourcing school-enterprise alliance, schools and cooperative units actively carry out professional technical training such as e-commerce, software and information services, and the annual training volume reaches about 1,200 people. In the second “Chinese Education Outsourcing Human Resources Service Institution Education Institution Selection”, the school won the honorable title of “Most Growing Award”.
Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs has vigorously carried out international exchanges and foreign cooperation. At present, our university’s foreign cooperation involves more than 50 universities in more than 20 countries and regions including the United States, Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, Russia, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Cooperation projects include junior college, master college, exchange student, exchange student, short-term training and many other forms.
