Introduction to Central South Forestry University of Science and Technology
Central South Forestry University of Science and Technology (中南林业科技大学, website), founded in 1958, is located in Changsha, a famous historical and cultural city in China. It is a key construction University of Hunan Provincial People’s government and State Forestry and grassland administration. In 2012, it was selected into the National Central and western infrastructure capacity building project.
One of its predecessors is Hunan Forestry College, which was founded in 1958. In 1963, under the cordial care of the older generation of proletarian revolutionist Comrade Tao Zhu, Hunan Forestry College moved from Changsha to Guangzhou and merged with the Forestry Department of South China Agricultural College (now South China Agricultural University) to form the Central South Forestry College. Comrade Tao Zhu personally determined the school site, sketched the blueprint and inscribed the name of the school. In 1970, the Central South Forestry College and South China Agricultural College were merged to establish Guangdong agricultural and Forestry College. In 1974, the school moved from Guangzhou to Xupu County, Hunan Province and changed its name to Hunan Forestry College. In 1978, the name of Zhongnan Forestry College was restored, which was directly under the administration of the Ministry of forestry of the people’s Republic of China. In 1981, the school moved to Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. In 2000, the school was transformed into a province ministry joint construction. In 2003, the main body of the school moved to Changsha, achieving a historic return. In 2005, the Ministry of Education officially approved the school to be renamed Zhongnan University of forestry science and technology. In 2006, the University and the former Hunan Economic Management Cadre College merged to form the new Central South Forestry Science and Technology University.
Adhering to the school motto of “seeking truth and innovation, trees and people” and the core value of “inclusiveness, honesty, perseverance and fairness”, the university has worked hard and persevered, accumulated rich experience in running a school, formed distinctive characteristics of running a school, and become a nine university discipline including science, engineering, agriculture, literature, economics, law, management, teaching and art, with a post doctoral mobile station and a wealth of knowledge It is a multi-disciplinary teaching and research university with the right of awarding scholar’s degree and the right of deducting master’s degree. The university has the qualifications to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreign students. It has established cooperative relations with 90 universities and research institutions in 22 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Austria, Italy, Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, etc. In 2013, it was approved to establish Bangor college, the first Sino foreign cooperative school in Hunan Province, jointly held with Bangor University of England. The school has graduate school and 24 teaching units.
