Guangdong Vocational Institute of Sports (广东体育职业技术学院) was founded in August 1956, formerly known as Guangdong Sports School. In May 2003, it was upgraded to a full-time higher vocational sports college with the approval of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government. It is affiliated to the Guangdong Sports Bureau. Since the establishment of the school, a large number of sports stars who have made outstanding contributions to the country, such as Wu Dongmei, Fu Haifeng, Jiang Jialiang, Sun Caiyun, Xing Fen, and Dong Zhaozhi, have emerged. Approved by the Provincial Institutional Establishment Committee in August 2012, the college-affiliated sports school was renamed Guangdong Youth Sports School, and officially operated in January 2014.
Guangdong Vocational Institute of Sports is located in the Olympic Sports Park in Tianhe District, Guangzhou City. At present, there are 10 large-scale on-campus training bases, 60 on-campus training rooms, 81 off-campus training bases, 35 industry-academia cooperative enterprises, and 51 vocational skills training bases in the sports industry in 21 prefecture-level cities in the province. The library holds 160,000 books.
Guangdong Vocational Institute of Sports currently has 285 faculty and staff, 167 full-time teachers (including 47 teachers with senior professional titles, 7 with doctoral degree or above), 103 teachers with dual-quality teachers (accounting for 70.3% of the total number of full-time teachers). There are 136 part-time teachers outside the school, such as craftsmen and craftsmen. There are 4 outstanding teachers in Nanyue, 1 outstanding educator in Nanyue, and 7 people at the school level of “Thousands and Tens” talent training project. In 2012, he participated in the first National College of Vocational Sports Teachers’ Basic Skills Competition, and his total score ranked among the top three. In 2013, he won the third prize of the “National Seventh University Campus Cultural Construction Achievement” by the Ministry of Education. In the 2013 National Sports Industry Professional Skills Competition National Finals, he won the first place in the overall score of sports protection projects and the second place in the individual scores, and the first place in the individual scores of the swimming guidance and rescue project. During the period of 2014-2017, our students won 12 first-class group awards and 7 second-class group awards in participating in the National Sports Vocational College Student Skills Competition. Our teachers competed in the National Higher Sports Vocational Skills Teacher Group Competition. The CCP has won six first prizes, four second prizes, and three third prizes. Among the 19 vocational colleges in the country, our college is the only college with a total score of top three in the student and teacher groups in all previous competitions.
Guangdong Vocational Institute of Sports has 7 management organizations (Party Committee Office, Office, Personnel Office, Academic Affairs Office, General Affairs Office, Student Work Office, Training Office), 7 teaching institutions (Department of Sports Arts, Department of Sports Management, Department of Competitive Sports) , Department of Physical Education and Health Care, Basic Teaching Department, Training Department, Ideological and Political Theory Course Teaching Department), 3 auxiliary teaching institutions (computer and electrification teaching center, library, medical office), 1 research institution (vocational education research center), There are three units under the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau (Guangdong Provincial Sports Industry Specific Skills Appraisal Station, Guangdong Provincial Fitness and Fitness Rehabilitation Center, Guangdong Provincial Fitness Measurement and Sports Fitness Instruction Station).
Guangdong Vocational Institute of Sports currently has 3,304 full-time students and nearly 300 students in adult education. Currently, there are 9 majors in competitive sports, sports training, sports protection, sports art performance, sports health care and rehabilitation, sports operation and management, social sports, leisure sports, golf and management, with distinctive sports characteristics in the professional setting. Among them, the sports health and rehabilitation major successfully completed the “Central Financial Support for Higher Vocational Colleges to Enhance the Professional Service Industry Development Capability Project”, and the competitive sports major, sports operation and management major were selected as the key majors of higher vocational education in Guangdong Province; the training base for sports training The sports operation and management training base, the sports health and rehabilitation professional training base, and the sports protection professional training base are included in the provincial-level training base establishment project, and the sports health and rehabilitation professional out-of-school practice teaching base is included in the practice of college students in Guangdong Province. The construction project of the teaching base was established; the Guangdong Public Fitness Public Training Center and the Sports Training Professional Public Training Center were included in the Guangdong Higher Vocational Education Public Training Center Construction Project. The two excellent resource-sharing courses “Sports Protection” and “Outdoor Outreach Guidance and Training” have been approved by the Guangdong Higher Education Quality Engineering Higher Vocational Education Project. Since 2011, the college has undertaken a total of 135 teaching and research projects, including 14 projects at the provincial and ministerial level or above, 81 projects at the department and bureau level, and 2 textbooks for the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” of the Ministry of Education.
The Training Department of Guangdong Vocational Institute of Sports has “eight major training bases” (national professional training bases for sports-specific occupations, continuing education bases for professional and technical personnel in Guangdong Province, career conversion training bases for retired athletes in Guangdong Province, and job training for junior and middle-level coaches in Guangdong Province Base, Guangdong Province sports traditional project school sports teacher training base, Guangdong sports industry management cadre training base, Guangdong sports industry operation and management personnel training base, Guangdong social sports instructor training base), “two stations” (specific jobs Vocational Skills Appraisal Station, Wuhan Sports Institute Guangdong Sports Vocational Technology Correspondence Station), “Two Rooms” (Athlete Career Guidance Studio, Vocational Skills Appraisal Lab). As of the end of 2017, a total of 432 training courses of various types were held for professional and technical personnel, referees, retired athletes and other high-skilled professionals in the sports industry, with 32,565 trainees.
Relying on the advantages of the industry, the college will be based in Guangdong, radiate the whole country, face the industry and serve the society. It will focus on the three major tasks of “sports vocational education, sports talent training, and social service.” It features sports industry and training of sports talents, builds a sports talent training system that places equal emphasis on quality and skills, trains high-quality and skilled application-oriented talents, and achieves joint promotion and coordinated development of sports vocational education, sports talent training, and social services. The college has become a first-class sports vocational and technical college with Chinese characteristics and a national social service demonstration base in sports vocational colleges.
