Shantou University is a comprehensive university established by the State Council in 1981 and approved by the State Council. It is also the only university in the country that has received long-term support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation. In 2006, he participated in the evaluation of the teaching work level of ordinary colleges and universities organized by the Ministry of Education and received excellent evaluation.

The College of Liberal Arts is one of the nine major colleges of Shantou University, with the exception of the Chinese Language and Literature Department, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, the New Chinese Studies Center, the Taiwan-Hong Kong and Overseas Chinese Literature Research Center, the Chaoshan Culture Research Center and the Chinese Language and Culture Institute (Chinese Language Training Center). In addition to the six departmental teaching and research units, in 2009, with the support of the school leaders and the Li Ka Shing Foundation, the Institute of English Language and Culture of Shantou University, the Overseas Examination Center of Shantou University, the Women’s Research Center, and the Global Research Center were established. The Center for International Studies and the Christian Research Center (renamed the Center for Religious Culture Research in September 2017), organized BEC and TOFEL examinations, conducted research on English language, literature and culture, and hired experts at home and abroad to offer a series of courses for undergraduates and organize undergraduate courses. Students and graduate students carry out social welfare activities. In September 2010, a humanities and general education base and a language and translation base were established.

The College of Liberal Arts currently has 59 full-time teachers and 3 doctoral supervisors, including 12 professors and professors, 25 associate professors, 39 doctoral degree teachers, 19 overseas degree teachers, and 14 overseas teachers.

Since 1983, the College of Liberal Arts has enrolled undergraduates majoring in Chinese language and literature and English majors. By 2016, the College of Arts and Sciences has enrolled 5,695 students (including junior college students).

The College of Liberal Arts has a master’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature and a master’s degree in English language and literature. Chinese language and literature degree includes five aspects: Chinese modern and contemporary literature, Chinese linguistics, literary and art, ancient Chinese literature, comparative literature and world literature (co-cultivated with the Chinese University of Hong Kong); English language and literature including linguistics and applied linguistics , English and American literature and translation and culture in three directions. By 2016, the College of Liberal Arts has recruited 379 graduate students and currently has 67 graduate students.

The Chinese Language and Literature Department is one of the key projects of the school’s “211 Project”. It has four sub-projects: Chaoshan dialect and cultural studies, overseas Chinese literature history, Chinese aesthetic culture, and cultural interpretation of Chinese classical literature. The Chaoshan Culture Research Center and the Overseas Chinese Literature Research Center include “Tideology Research Series” and “Chinese Literature” magazine (bimonthly). In 2002, Chen Xianmao and Wu Hao, who were collectively written by Taiwan, Hong Kong and Overseas Chinese Literature Research Center, wrote a total of 2 million words of “Overseas Chinese Literature History”, which won the third prize of the 3rd China University Humanities and Social Sciences Research Outstanding Achievement Award. This is the highest award class that our school has won in the field of humanities and social science research. It has produced great repercussions in the Chinese literature and research circles at home and abroad, and has been highly evaluated, which has established our school in the field of overseas Chinese literature research. leading position.

The subjects of English linguistics and applied linguistics are one of the key support disciplines of the school’s “211 Project”. There are three research directions: English for specialized use, theory and practice of translation, and English language and culture. During the first phase of construction, we have achieved scientific research results with certain influence in all three research directions. We have published more than 20 academic works and textbooks at home and abroad, and published more than 100 academic papers, and obtained scientific research and teaching achievements. STU’s English Language Center provides English language instruction for all of the university’s students, and offers a pioneering program of language instruction that emphasizes not only practical language proficiency, but also critical thinking skills, intercultural competence, and sustainable independent language learning. The ELC seeks candidates to teach English skill courses at a variety of levels, from low intermediate to advanced, and also to assist with the ELC’s rich program of co-curricular activities. Qualifications:
1. Instructors: Candidates for instructor positions should have an MA degree in TEFL or a related subject area; preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience.
2. Lecturers: Candidates for lecturer positions should have an MA degree in TEFL or a related subject area and three or more years’ full-time post-degree teaching experience at tertiary level. Preference is given to candidates who have experience in curriculum development, materials development, teacher training, and/or leading teaching teams.
3. Associate Professors: Candidates for associate professor positions should have a doctorate in TEFL or a related subject area and also relevant teaching experience. Preference is given to candidates who have experience in research and publication and are able to assist other faculty with research projects.

For all positions, preference will be given to candidates who have experience learning foreign languages and/or living in foreign cultures.
